The oud is a pear-shaped stringed instrument commonly used in North African and Middle Eastern music. Not surprisingly, there are very few classical music compositions for this highly unusual concert hall instrument. I am aware of only one concerto for oud and orchestra, composed by Abdalla El-Masri from Lebanon in 2011. It is played by Samir Nasr Eddine and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra under the composer, on an unknown CD label.
