The viola d'amore is a 6- or 7-stringed musical instrument with additional sympathetic strings, which was used especially often in the baroque period. There are many baroque concertos for the instruments (many by Vivaldi), but I have selected a much later one. Paul Hindemith composed a series of seven concertante works for solo instruments and chamber orchestra ("Kammermusik") - and number 6 is for the viola d'amore as solo instrument. It is played by Norbert Blume with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly on Decca.
