The trumpet is of course a regular instrument in the symphony orchestra. It was rather popular as a concertante instrument in baroque and classical times (Haydn, Hummel), to end up being neglected during the romantic era, and then revived to some extent in the past century. Most notable more recent concertos are by Rouse, Holmboe, Zimmermann, Jolivet, Tomasi, Aho, and Araturian - and the one I selected, by Peter Maxwell Davies. It is played by John Wallace with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under the composer on Naxos (originally on Collins).
