Synthesizer

The synthesizer is an electric instrument that is of course best known for its use in pop and rock music from the mid-sixties to mid-eighties. Not surprisingly, some contemporary classical music composers have also had a stab at this beast. Probably best known is Rautavaara's sixth symphony Vincentiana in which it has a very prominent role. A real concerto for synthesizer (titled "Fomr Above") was composed by Olav Thommessen. It is played by Iver Kleine with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under Arturo Tamayo on Aurora.
