Suona

The suona is a traditional Chinese double-reed wind instrument, known for its incredibly loud, piercing, and bright sound. Virtually unknown in classical music, except for Chinese composers. I have chosen the suona concerto titled "Calling for Phoenix" by Wenchen Qin. It is played by Qianyuan Zhang with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony under Gottfried Rabl on Naxos.
