The shamisen or samisen, also sangen (both words mean "three strings"), is a three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument derived from the Chinese instrument sanxian. In recent decades it found its way into non-Japanese music, such as bluegrass, jazz and rock. And classical music: Dai Fujikura composed as far as I know the only concerto for shamisen and orchestra. It is played by Hidejiro Honjoh with the Ensemble Nomad under Norio Sato on Minabel.
