Electric Cello

The electric cello (or amplified cello) relies on electronic amplification (rather than acoustic resonance) to produce sound. Many electric cellos have bodies modeled after acoustic cellos, while others abandon the design completely, opting for a totally new body shape, or having little or no body at all. Its use as not as wide-spread as electric guitar or even electric violin, and it is very rarely used in classical music. I know of one concerto for the instrument, composed in 2016 by Olli Virtaperko, named "Romer's Gap". It is played by Apocalyptica's Perttu Kivilaakso with the Jyväskylä Sinfonia under Ville Matvejeff on Ondine.
