The cornet is a brass instrument very similar to the trumpet, distinguished by its conical bore, compact shape, and mellower tone quality. It was invented in 1814, and has made little appearance in classical music. I only know of one concerto for cornet and orchestra. It is by Dexter Morrill, played by Mark Ponzo with the Northern Illinois Philharmonic under Brian Groner on Centaur.
