Oboe

The oboe is of course a common orchestral instrument, but still not that common in concertos, when compared to say cello and clarinet (let alone piano and violin). The most famous 20th century oboe concertos are probably the ones by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Richard Strauss. I have selected Bruno Maderna's second of three concertos as my example. It is played by Heinz Holliger with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra under Gary Bertini on Philips.
