The marimba is one of the tunedful members of the percussion group, and a personal favourite of mine. It has become a relatively popular concertante instrument in recent decades, with concertos by composers like Milhaud, Creston, Musgrave, Koppel and Rosauro. I have opted for the short but beautiful marimba concerto by Akira Miyoshi, played by Evelyn Glennie and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Paul Daniel on RCA.
