Lute

The lute is a plucked string instrument that was popular in the renaissance and baroque periods, but that went out of fashion when guitars took over. Unlike some other baroque instruments, the lute has not seen a revival after 1900. For sake of completion, I include it in the list, picking a concerto by Jakob Kleinknecht from the Sturm und Drang period, where the lute shines one last time as the CD booklet puts it. It is played by Miguel Rincón with Il Pomo d'Oro on Aparté.
