Balalaika

The balalaika is a Russian stringed musical instrument with a characteristic triangular wooden, hollow body, fretted neck, and three strings. A folk instrument dating back to around 1800, it never made much impact on classical music in general, let alone on the concertante repertoire. In fact, I am aware of only one concerto for the instrument: the one from 1964 by Estonian composer Eduard Tubin, played by Emanuil Sheynkman with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Neeme Järvi on BIS.
